The Sydney Opera House is one of the most recognized tourist icons in the world. The open and expansive venue created challenges for those tasked with undertaking a significant, costly renovation and restoration initiative. KIRAN was engaged during the planning stage to create a quantitative guest arrival and visitor flow model. KIRAN built and validated the model using external data sources plus pinpoint location and time stamped counts of over three million guests. The result was the most comprehensive arrival and visitor flow model of its kind, which l resulted in developing an optimal visitor flow plan for this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Mogao Grottoes, located near the city of Dunhuang, China, consist of almost 500 grottoes that contain the largest repository of ancient Buddhist wall paintings and sculpture in China. Managing visitor experience at such ancient and delicate sites is complicated by the dynamic environmental conditions. KIRAN created a model to help preserve this national treasure for future generations, by creating a tool that took into account the different environmental and human strains. Using this model, this UNESCO heritage site was able to control people flow and thus improve visitor satisfaction, while keeping the grottos intact.
The Getty Trust operates the largest museum in Los Angeles, known by its residents as simply, "The Getty." KIRAN has worked with the Getty to solve a number of visitor-flow, crowd management and parking capacity issues - both at the Getty Villa and the Getty Museum.
With construction underway, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, located in Los Angeles, is the perfect example of forecasting people-flow, using data gathered from peer institutions and advanced forecasting. KIRAN devised a number of models in order to provide useful solutions for hypothetical people-flow issues.
The REI Flagship store located in Seattle, Washington is an 80,000 square-foot massive structure with a staff of about 380 employees. The store receives a sizable amount of visitors, thus making it’s visitor flow system at check out extremely important. KIRAN modeled the check out area, by testing different floor plans in order to determine the most optimal plan for both general and peak visiting hours.
The Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, serves as a major connection hub for both Asian and European destinations. KIRAN’s project with Ataturk Airport included the development of simulation models for the new international terminal. These models helped evaluate passenger and aircraft flow from the terminal entrance to boarding, identifying both system bottlenecks as well as system capacities.
Science Center Singapore houses over 14 different galleries dedicated to science, technology, and mathematics, includes an outdoor exhibition space boasts of 20,000 square meters. The 10-hectare site receives over 100,000 visitors annually. In order to better organize the interactive exhibits, KIRAN generated a CGI animation of visitor bottle necks at the institution. Using this information, the Center was able to better regulate people flow throughout the site.
The Empire State Building’s observation decks receives over 3 million visitors every year. The limiting nature of elevators can create a substantial people flow problems at this highly visited attraction. In order to properly accommodate the high number of visitors, Kiran Consulting Group preformed a simulation analysis of the implementation of new elevators, to properly calculate the amount of elevators necessary for such high volumes of people.
The Springs Preserve is a 180-acre cultural and historical attraction offers a unique cultural experience which includes colorful desert botanical gardens, museum galleries, outdoor concerts and events. KIRAN streamlined an accurate simulation model, providing visibility to facility planners for efficiently managing operations for this $250 million attraction.
